Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has unveiled a seven-point draft for talks with the government.
Sharing the draft on social media, Sohail Afridi wrote that this is the draft I sent to the negotiation committee, which I am placing before my nation. The entire nation should know that not a single one of these demands is unconstitutional or illegal. We are being treated as second-class citizens. The people occupying the state are treating us like stepmothers. These were, are and will remain our demands.
The following issues will be agreed upon to ensure political stability in the country, supremacy of the constitution and law, continuity of the democratic process, national unity, establishment of law and order, and to resolve all political and national issues through mutual consultation and negotiations. - A regular meeting will be organized between the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the leaders of the opposition parties in both houses in which all important political, national, constitutional, legal and democratic issues facing the country, especially pending issues, will be discussed in detail. The parties will be bound to ensure effective and workable progress within two months for the resolution of the above issues through mutual consultation and negotiations.
- The Prime Minister of Pakistan will constitute a joint political negotiation committee consisting of representatives of the ruling coalition, the Pakistan Peoples Party and the opposition parties. This committee will hold continuous negotiations with the opposition on national and political issues, mutual differences and other important issues and will find workable solutions by mutual consensus. The committee will ensure significant progress in negotiations and resolution within one month of its establishment and present its recommendations to the relevant leadership.
- Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi shall be provided with all legal, human and medical rights without discrimination in accordance with the Jail Manual, the Constitution of Pakistan and the prevailing laws. In connection with their treatment and care, the provision of necessary medical facilities and treatment shall be ensured, taking into account the medical opinion, instructions and advice of their personal/nominated doctors, wherever applicable by law.
- In accordance with the Jail Manual and relevant laws, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi shall be provided with the right to meet their families, nominated lawyers and authorized/nominated companions. The meetings shall be held in accordance with the law and the jail rules and regulations, however, the facility of meeting shall not be used by any party for political or other purposes that are prohibited by law.
- The consideration of appeals and other legal applications filed by Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, women, elderly and sick prisoners and all other detainees against their sentences and other legal applications will be initiated/completed within ten days in accordance with the Constitution and law, where legally possible. All cases will be decided by the relevant courts and legal forums in accordance with the Constitution, law, transparent judicial process and the principles of justice, without undue delay. Women who are serving political imprisonment, including the elderly Yasmin Rashid and Bushra Bibi, should be released early on humanitarian grounds.
- Effective, continuous and meaningful consultation will be ensured between the federal and provincial governments to eradicate terrorism, protect the lives and property of the people and establish lasting and sustainable peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. For this purpose, the existing policies and measures will be regularly reviewed and appropriate amendments will be made to them as required. Authorized representatives of the federal and provincial governments will hold a regular meeting within 72 hours and formulate a clear, comprehensive and workable strategy for the establishment of law and order through mutual consultation. - After the federal government provides a written assurance of effective implementation of the above assurances and agreed measures, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will announce the cancellation of the current long march. - Meanwhile, in his reaction to the draft shared by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Federal Interior Minister Mehsin Naqvi said that this could be his possible draft which was circulated late at night in such a way that it could sabotage the drafts already agreed upon between the two sides.
- The Interior Minister said that the negotiation teams had finalized a separate draft on which both sides agreed, in addition to which the KP Terrorism Related Implementation Plan is also included.
