Islamabad: The President of the country approved the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council Presidential Ordinance, the officers including the President and Vice President of the Council were dismissed, after the implementation of the Nursing Council Presidential Ordinance, all powers were delegated to the Ministry of Health.

A new committee consisting of 19 members has been formed, in the first meeting, the committee will elect a president and vice president for the council, the Secretary Health will have the veto power to approve or reject any decision of the Nursing Council.

The Federal Secretary Health, the Federal DG Health and the DG Nursing of the four provinces will be members, one nurse from the private sector from each province will be a member of the committee, one LHV and one midwife will also be part of the committee, the Chief Nursing Officer of Armed Forces Nursing will also be part of the committee.

Members sent by the Ministry of Health with the approval of the Prime Minister will also be members of the committee. All members will be appointed for a period of three years. Advertisement will be given for one philanthropist, chartered accountant and member of the legal committee.

The council will appoint a secretary for a period of three years and the appointment of the secretary will be through a competitive process. The council has been empowered to form an executive committee to carry out day-to-day affairs.
