Amidst the tensions in the Middle East and the US-Iran war, a US Air Force plane has arrived in Moscow without anyone noticing.
According to the flight tracking website FlightRadar24, a US Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft arrived in Moscow from Riga, the capital of Latvia, at around 7 am GMT on Tuesday. The aircraft also had a US registered tail number.
The FlightRadar24 report said that the US plane arrived at Camp Springs, a US air base near Washington, on August 23 and departed for Moscow from Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, on Sunday afternoon.
It should be noted that Joint Base Andrews is considered an important military base for official air travel of the US president and high-ranking officials, but it was not clear which person was on the US plane.
According to the report, the last US-registered flight from Europe to Russia directly took place in January, when US special envoy Steve Wittkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in Russia for peace talks on the Ukraine war.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that there was no information about the arrival of the US plane and no meetings with any US officials were scheduled this week.
The C-17 Globemaster is a heavy military transport aircraft used to transport troops and military equipment over long distances. Its sudden arrival in Moscow has sparked various speculations about its possible purpose.
According to the British newspaper The Eyepaper, the flight could be related to some diplomatic activity or prisoner exchange. This speculation comes at a time when former US Marine Robert Gilman was released in August and prisoner exchanges have taken place between Russia and the US before.
Although the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine have not made significant progress and are at a standstill, the possibility of some unannounced diplomatic contact between the United States and Russia cannot be completely ruled out.
At present, no official explanation has been released by US officials on the purpose of the plane’s arrival in Moscow.
