Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari once again vowed to launch a protest movement against Prime Minister Nawaz Shaif if his four demands were not met immediately. He disclosed that PPP CEC and federal council will meet on 27th December and will decide future course of action regarding the movement. He said that if demands of his party not met, PPP would launch such a massive movement that the government would not be left with any other option but to go.
PPP is asking for constitution of parliamentary security committee, investigation into panama leaks scandal, implementation of CPEC as agreed by All Parties conference and democratic accountability of foreign policy and appointment of foreign minister. If we look at the demands of PPP, they are not unusual by any stretch of imagination. Almost all the political parties have raised concerns for not appointing a permanent Foreign Minister. Other demands are also not absurd and it would be unwise to refuse to sort out the differences.
Government quite often complaints about actions of PTI for holding protests and sit-ins on roads and blocking cities, but it also gives reasons to other political parties to do the same. If a political party, which enjoys majority in Senate, is asking for fulfillment of four reasonable demands, incumbent government should not put a deaf ear. PPP has announced a committee to suggest ways and means to the government for implementing the four demands. Government should also appoint a committee comprising of its flexible leaders to indulge in talks with PPP in order to settle issues with negotiations.
The four demands put up by the PPP are by no means unusual.
