LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has rejected a statement made on social media by former women cricketer Sana Mir as “contrary to facts”.
A senior official of the PCB women’s wing clarified that Sana Mir should have verified the facts before making a public statement.
The PCB says that the “National Women’s One-Day Tournament” included in the recently announced 2025-26 domestic calendar will actually be the start of a new season for Pakistani women cricketers, while the previous one-day season will end with the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka.
Sana Mir had expressed concerns that the ODI tournament had been “rushed” into a busy schedule, on which the PCB took a blunt stance, saying that the physical and mental health of the players is given top priority.
According to a PCB spokesperson, from July 7 to November 2, 2025, the national women’s team will be engaged in a full program, which includes two training camps in Karachi and Lahore, an overseas T20 series, a home ODI series and 7 league matches of the ICC World Cup and possible knockout matches.
On Sana Mir’s claim that the domestic 50-over tournament is being held along with the World Cup, the PCB clarified that this is completely wrong, as the ICC Women’s World Cup will be played from September 30 to November 2, 2025, while the National Women’s ODI tournament will be held in Karachi from November 10 to 23, 2025, the preparation for which will begin from November 6, i.e. after the conclusion of the World Cup.
In preparation for the World Cup, the PCB has already started a 25-day fitness and skills camp in Karachi, which also includes several 50-over practice matches. The Pakistan team will return home after playing a T20 series in Ireland on August 12, after which they will prepare extensively for the ODI series against South Africa starting on August 25.
The national team will play three home ODI matches from August 25 to September 28 and two warm-up matches will also be played against Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka ‘A’ in Colombo to further hone the players’ skills in the 50-over format.
It is also worth mentioning that the Pakistan Women’s team made it to the World Cup by remaining undefeated in the World Cup Qualifier held in Lahore in April. Later, all the players participated vigorously in the National Women’s T20 Tournament held in Karachi in May.
