Islamabad: It has been revealed that foreign mobile SIMs are being used for serious crimes in Pakistan, and a nationwide crackdown has been launched to prevent this.
Additional DG Cyber Crime FIA Waqaruddin Syed, while holding a press conference in the federal capital, said that with the advent of social media, new methods are being used to harass people. Foreign mobile SIMs are being used in cyber crimes.
He said that foreign mobile SIMs are being used in other serious crimes including terrorism, financial fraud, child pornography and these SIMs are widely available in the market. Criminals are using these SIMs.
The Additional DG Cyber Crime said that English SIMs are being used the most in Pakistan. Criminals are using foreign SIMs on a large scale to hide themselves.
He said that British SIMs are being used the most in crimes. These foreign SIMs are being sold on social media. Those who bring SIMs from foreign countries to Pakistan are doing illegal things.
In the press conference, he further said that a crackdown has been carried out against those using foreign SIMs across Pakistan, in which 44 people have been arrested, from whom a large number of foreign SIMs have been recovered. These foreign SIMs are also being used in terrorist incidents, he warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in this business.
Waqaruddin Syed said that we have recovered more than 8,000 British SIMs so far. Defending Pakistan is our top priority. The institutions will make every effort to eliminate the use of foreign SIMs for use in serious crimes.
He said that the government of Pakistan will raise this issue with the UK at its level. PTA is with us in this matter. There is no issue for those who use these SIMs legally.
