Karachi: Anti-polio officials have briefed the Prime Minister that in 2026, only one case of polio has been reported in Pakistan from Sujawal district, while 74 cases of polio were reported in 2024 and 31 cases in 2025.
According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s House, an important review meeting on polio eradication was held today at the Prime Minister’s House, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in which the participants were briefed on anti-polio measures.
The meeting was informed that in the year 2026, only one case of polio has been reported in Pakistan from Sujawal district, while 74 cases of polio were reported in 2024 and 31 cases in 2025. No polio case has been reported from Punjab province, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Balochistan province, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir this year.
In the first quarter of 2025, 67 districts of the country were affected by polio, which number decreased to 23 in the first quarter of 2026. National household coverage remained at 98 percent across all anti-polio campaigns.
