Iran has dismissed the possibility of new talks with the United States, saying that the Iranian delegation in New York has no plans to hold talks with American officials.

The Iranian state news agency IRNA reported this statement, citing an unnamed source close to the Iranian delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly.

The statement by Iranian media came after US President Donald Trump said he expected more talks with Iran this week. Trump had also rejected Iran’s offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days a day earlier.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that Tehran still wanted a diplomatic solution, but Iran was waiting for a formal response to the US position through mediators. According to Araqchi, Iran would decide on its next move only after receiving a final US position.

Recent diplomatic contacts between Iran and the US have been through mediators rather than direct talks. According to Axios, regional mediators, including Qatar, are continuing to send messages between the two countries and are trying to restart indirect talks. However, according to a recent Iranian state media report, the Iranian delegation in New York has not planned any new talks with the United States at this time.

This situation has emerged at a time when the United States and Iran remain at loggerheads over the Strait of Hormuz, the ceasefire and nuclear issues.

Iran says that its conditions must be met in order to open the Strait of Hormuz, while Washington is trying to get concessions from Iran on other issues.
