The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has fixed minimum retail prices for ghee and cooking oil to curb alleged tax evasion in the sector and ensure tax collection commensurate with full capacity; moving forward, taxes will be collected from manufacturers based on these fixed prices.

The FBR has issued a notification stating that, under the Sales Tax Act of 1990, minimum prices have been established for locally produced vegetable and animal fats and oils, as well as ghee and cooking oil.

According to the FBR notification, the minimum price will be determined by deducting Rs. 25 per kilogram from the average national retail price recorded during the last week of the preceding month, as published in the Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) on the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) website.
