MIRPUR: The business community has been struck the hardest during the Covid-19 lockdowns and no concrete steps have been taken by the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to support it, said Mirpur (AJK) Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Faisal Manzoor.
Addressing a policy advocacy workshop on Tuesday, he called upon the AJK government to provide special incentives to the members of the business community who were trying to recover from the losses.
“The policy advocacy skill is an essential component of business leadership as it empowers people to create consensus-based solutions for complex issues,” said Manzoor. “Such skills also enhance the ability of the business leaders to present their cases in a non-violent and structured manner before authorities and their constituencies.”
Giving a detailed presentation, NUML University, Islamabad Head of Public Policy Department Waqas Kausar said that the business community needed to explore more economic opportunities in non-traditional sectors such as e-commerce and the digital world.
Due to Covid-19, businesses have largely moved from in-person shopping to digital modes, he said.
He also emphasized upon the leaders of the AJK Chamber of Commerce and Industry to increase their interaction with small businessmen across Azad Jammu and Kashmir in a bid to educate them about the emerging opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
