Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local government representatives announce to take to the streets once again

Peshawar: Local government representatives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have once again announced to take to the streets.

Local government representatives from across the province will stage a sit-in in front of the provincial assembly in Peshawar on September 30. A committee has also been formed by the local government representatives for an all-party conference.

According to the spokesperson of the Local Councils Association, Azizullah Khan Marwat, the local government representatives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have protested several times for a stable local government system, provision of social and municipal services to the people, and protection of public rights. They held talks with Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur, in which each time the local government representatives were promised their legal and constitutional powers as well as development funds, but the provincial government could not fulfill any of its promises, on which the Local Councils Association of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to take to the streets once again.

He said that a full-scale protest sit-in will be launched in front of the Provincial Assembly on September 30, 2025. All mayors, tehsils, village and neighborhood council chairmen and members of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been directed to intensify preparations for the protest on September 30.

Azizullah Marwat said that thousands of local government representatives from different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will head to Peshawar and an all-party conference on local government issues is also expected to be held next week, for which a committee has been formed, the convener of which is Haroon Sifat, Tehsil Chairman Pushtkhara Peshawar, while other members include Tehsil Chairman Humayun Khan, Tehsil Chairman Adil Khan, Tehsil Chairman Ghulam Haqqani, Tehsil Chairman Rafiullah Khan and others.
