Heavy rains continue in various areas of Karachi today, while the risk of urban flooding remains due to poor drainage.

Heavy rains continue with strong winds in Bahadurabad, PECHS, Jamshed Road, Tipu Sultan Road, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir Halt, Garden and other areas of Karachi.

The NDMA’s Emergency Operations Center said that extremely heavy rains are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and adjacent areas in the next 12-24 hours.

According to the statement, more than 50 to 100 mm of rain may fall in a short time. There is a risk of urban flooding in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Mirpurkhas due to heavy rains and poor drainage.

In addition, there is a risk of flash floods in the districts of Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro and Dadu, there is also a risk of flooding in low-lying areas due to rising water levels in the Indus River and its tributaries.

The duration of disruption in power and telecommunication services may increase, residents of flood-prone areas should move valuables and livestock to safe places.

Deputy Director Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Anjum Nazir Zaigham says that rain may start in Karachi after 2 pm today, and the rain that started this afternoon is likely to continue till 7 pm.

Water has reached a high level in the Korangi and Causeway rivers, the Korangi Crossing River, both roads coming and going to Korangi Crossing towards Qayyumabad are closed for traffic.

Traffic is being diverted from Qayyumabad Chowrangi towards Baloch Colony and from CNG Cut towards Godam Chowrangi.

Thunderstorms and very heavy rains are expected in the districts of Mithi, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar and Jamshoro of Sindh, while intermittent rains are also expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur and Jacobabad.

Rain, wind and strong winds with thundershowers may also continue in the districts of Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibi, Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, Gwadar and Panjgur of Balochistan till August 22.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain has also been predicted in Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and various districts of Upper Punjab including Rawalpindi, Attock, Murree, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan and Rajanpur.

Various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan and Swabi will also remain under the influence of rain.

The Meteorological Department has warned that urban flooding is likely in low-lying areas of Sindh including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar and Jamshoro due to heavy rains, while rivers and canals may overflow in the northern and southeastern parts of Balochistan.

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rains, winds and lightning strikes can damage weak structures such as shack buildings, electricity poles, signboards, vehicles and solar panels. In this situation, the public, travelers and tourists have been instructed to avoid unnecessarily going to dangerous areas and stay informed about the latest weather information.
