Patriot Web Desk: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri has once again demanded that the Justice Baqir Najfi Commission report on the Model Town bloodbath be made public.
A judicial commission was set up to investigate the Model Town massacre that lead to the death of 14 people, most of them workers of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek after a violent clash with Punjab police in Lahore’s busy Model Town area.
The commissions report to date has not been made public although Dawn newspapers in one of its report said that it has confirmed some of the content of the report.
According to the report in Dawn, the report held the government responsible for the incident and said police acted on government orders which led to the bloodshed.
Further according to the newspaper, the report has said the affidavits of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and former law minister Rana Sanaullah contained contradictions regarding the orders they reportedly issued to police to disengage, and declared that what happened on the ground did not match such claims.
Despite the passage of more than three years since the tragic incident it is questionable as to why the report has not been made public. The government faced massive pressure in the aftermath of the incident and keeping an important commission report secret suggests that the report may not be in government’s favor.
