The Israeli army’s Fact-Finding and Assessment Mechanism reviewed five incidents of Palestinian deaths. These included the deaths of Hind Rajab, 15 aid workers, and seven World Central Kitchen workers.

According to Arab media, the Israeli army announced the launch of an internal criminal investigation into the deaths of 5-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab and 15 medical and aid workers in Gaza, but the World Central Kitchen incident was blamed on the cold storage.

These decisions on these incidents were made after the initial investigation by the Israeli army’s own Fact-Finding and Assessment Mechanism, which acknowledged the brutality.

What was the incident of the innocent girl Hind Rajab?

Hind Rajab was traveling with her family in a car in Gaza City in January 2024 when the Israeli army opened fire on her. The entire family was martyred in the car, but the innocent Hind Rajab survived alone in the car.

Amid the blood-soaked bodies of her family and the indiscriminate firing by the Israeli army, this innocent girl remained in touch with the Palestinian Red Crescent officials on her mobile phone for several hours.

An audio of Hind Rajab’s conversation with the Palestinian Red Crescent emergency center had come to light, which made every kind-hearted person cry. In this audio, the innocent girl can be heard pleading with the rescue workers to save her life in a state of extreme fear.

An ambulance was also sent to rescue Hind Rajab, but then the Red Crescent lost contact with this rescue team, while no trace of the innocent girl could be found.

About 12 days after this incident, the bodies of Hind Rajab, her family and two members of the rescue team were found. Which sparked intense international outrage and harsh criticism of Israel.

The Israeli army, in its usual stubbornness, categorically denied its presence in the area or involvement in the shooting, but subsequent investigations revealed evidence of the presence of Israeli military vehicles.

The Israeli army’s lies were exposed by the Washington Post, which published a study examining satellite images and indicating the presence of Israeli armored vehicles in the area.

While this incident shook the international conscience, sensitive filmmakers in the international film industry made films about this heartbreaking incident, which further highlighted the incident.

The most famous film on this subject was The Voice of Hind Rajab by Tunisian filmmaker Kawther Ben Hania, which uses the audio of Hind Rajab’s actual last phone call and presents the incident from the perspective of workers at the Red Crescent relief center. The duration of the film is 89 minutes.

The film premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize, the Silver Lion. It was later nominated for an Oscar.

In addition, a Dutch short film called Close Your Eyes Hind was made in 2025, while a Jordanian short film called Hind Under Siege also took up the same incident as the subject.

Death of 15 aid workers

The second incident for which not only responsibility was acknowledged but also an announcement to launch an investigation was made, which took place on March 23, 2025, in Tel Sultan, Rafah, southern Gaza.

On that day, personnel from the Palestine Red Crescent, Civil Defense and other aid agencies were sent to help the injured.

Israeli soldiers opened fire on several ambulances and aid vehicles, resulting in the martyrdom of 15 aid and medical workers. Their bodies were later recovered from a mass grave.

In this incident, the Israeli army initially claimed that the suspicious vehicles were moving towards the soldiers without headlights and emergency signals, but after the video and other evidence that emerged later, the Israeli army denied its initial statement and admitted that the soldiers had misunderstood the incident.

After this incident, the Israeli army also removed one of its deputy commanders from his post, while a brigade commander was also reprimanded. Now, a formal criminal investigation has been decided in this case as well.

The case of the World Central Kitchen workers is different

The Israeli army also reviewed the deaths of 7 World Central Kitchen aid workers in Gaza in April 2024, but refused to open a criminal investigation into this incident.

The Israeli army’s fact-finding committee took the position that there was no reasonable suspicion of criminal corruption or criminal conduct in this incident, so there was no need for criminal proceedings.

It should be noted that seven World Central Kitchen volunteers were targeted in an Israeli airstrike while returning from a relief operation in Gaza.

Initially, Israel called the attack a mistake, but an Israeli military investigation later found serious operational errors and violations of military procedures, and two officers were dismissed.

Response from human rights organizations

The Israeli human rights organization Yesh Din expressed serious concerns about the military investigation system, saying that the number of cases of indictments and convictions against Palestinians compared to the number of complaints of war crimes by the Israeli military is extremely low, and the number of convictions is almost non-existent.
