Islamabad; Suicide blast at Imambargah, death toll rises to 31, 169 injured

Islamabad: A suicide blast at the gate of an Imambargah in the Tarlai area killed 31 people and injured 169, with the death toll expected to rise.

According to, the blast took place at the gate of the Imambargah at 1:40 am, the sound of which was heard far and wide, and the windows of houses adjacent to the Imambargah and vehicles parked nearby were broken. Police and rescue teams reached the spot, while the IG Islamabad imposed an emergency in Islamabad. The site of the explosion was completely sealed.

Emergency was imposed in the federal capital’s polyclinic, PIMS and CDA Hospital. The leaves of the hospital staff were canceled.

According to police sources, the bomb disposal squad is investigating the nature of the explosion. Rangers and Pakistan Army personnel also reached the spot.

The injured were shifted to PIMS and Polyclinic Hospital. The main emergency, orthopedic, burn center and neuro departments are functional.

According to the district administration Islamabad, the injured in the blast have been shifted to PIMS and Polyclinic Hospital. Assistant Commissioners have been posted to supervise the treatment and care of the injured in different hospitals.

According to ED PIMS Imran Sikandar, 28 dead bodies were shifted to PIMS Hospital, 105 injured were brought to PIMS Hospital. A large number of youth reached PIMS to donate blood.

Similarly, Aon Abbas, Dr. Abbas Mehdi, Nasir Ali died in the Polyclinic, one deceased person is unknown.

The arrival of injured people continues at Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 5 injured were brought to Benazir Bhutto Hospital, additional police personnel have been deployed in the hospital, police personnel are deployed outside and inside the hospital emergency. One injured person, 22-year-old Zamin Shah, died during treatment in the same hospital, the other injured include Zain Shah, Azhar Shah and Riaz Shah.

According to sources, the condition of several patients brought to different hospitals of the city is critical, due to which there is a fear of an increase in the death toll.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reached the Imambargah and visited it, obtained details, left without talking to the media.

IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi’s cousin also martyred

Among the dead and injured are relatives of IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi, IG Islamabad’s cousin was martyred.

Security on high alert in Rawalpindi

After the blast in the Imambargah of Islamabad, security in Rawalpindi was put on high alert. Security of mosques and Imambargahs was increased, while orders were given to immediately remove encroachments outside the mosques and Imambargahs.

Police set up blockades on all internal and external routes, additional police personnel were also deployed at Christian places of worship in the Cantt.

CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani directed all SPs and SDPOs to immediately reach sensitive areas, while Rescue 1122 and Civil Defense were also put on high alert to deal with any emergency.

Ministry of Health

According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, an emergency has been immediately imposed in all government hospitals under the federal administration. The availability of medicines, medical equipment and other necessary arrangements is being ensured in the hospitals at all costs.

According to Mustafa Kamal, the leaves of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff have been canceled. The injured in the unfortunate incident are being provided with timely and quality medical facilities.

Minister of State for Interior

On the instructions of Federal Minister of Interior Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry reached PIMS Hospital. The Minister of State visited the patients injured in the blast who are undergoing treatment.

Talal Chaudhry directed to provide special medical facilities for the injured in the blast. He said that the government is determined to provide all possible medical facilities to the injured patients.

President condemns

President Asif Ali Zardari, expressing deep sorrow and grief over the blast in the federal capital, prayed for the families of the deceased and prayed for patience.

The President prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and directed to provide all possible medical facilities to the injured.

President Zardari said that targeting innocent citizens is a crime against humanity, the nation stands with the affected families in this hour of difficulty.

Prime Minister condemns

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, strongly condemning the blast in the Imambargah, expressed deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdoms while expressing sympathy with the families. The Prime Minister prayed for the high status of the martyrs and patience for their families.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who directed to conduct a complete investigation into the incident and immediately identify those responsible. The Prime Minister directed to provide the best medical facilities to the injured and ordered the Health Minister to personally monitor them.

The Prime Minister said that those responsible for the blast should be identified and punished to the fullest extent of the law, and that no one will be allowed to spread mischief and unrest in the country.

Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas condemned the Tarlai attack and said that he is deeply saddened and pained by the tragic blast in the Khadija-e-Kubra Mosque and the martyrdom of innocent worshippers.

Raja Nasir Abbas said that such a terrorist act in the federal capital is not only a proof of a serious failure in protecting human lives.
