Tehran: Iran has said that an understanding has been reached with Oman to restore maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, but its implementation will be conditional on the US fulfilling its promises.
According to the Anadolu Agency, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi has said that Iran and Oman have agreed on arrangements for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, but this understanding will not be implemented automatically.
According to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, Gharibabadi said that in order to implement this understanding, the other side, especially the US, will have to fulfill its promises. According to him, when the US promises are fulfilled, Iran will also take necessary measures accordingly
The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister made it clear that Iran is not in a hurry to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, Iran will continue its “defensive operations” and will also take measures to counter potential threats.
Gharibabadi said that these measures are nothing new and if Washington wants to return to the path of diplomacy, it must accept responsibility for past actions.
He said that the necessary arrangements regarding the Strait of Hormuz have been completed with the Omani government, however, the responsibility for fulfilling the conditions required for the implementation of the understanding lies with the other side. Government Services Search
The Iranian official said in no uncertain terms that the Strait of Hormuz is currently closed. If any ship passes through this route, it must pass through it in coordination with Iran and with the permission and cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Gharibabadi also rejected claims that some ships are passing through the Strait of Hormuz without contacting Tehran. According to him, the Iranian armed forces are keeping a close eye on the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister said that Iran’s recent meetings and contacts with Qatar and Pakistan were in the context of the mediation role of the two countries. According to him, Qatar and Pakistan tried to assess whether it was possible to resume the implementation of the commitments made under the “Islamabad Understanding”.
