India faces defeat on diplomatic front despite millions of dollars in lobbying in US

After the defeat in the territorial disputes and the battle for power, India started relying on lobbying firms due to diplomatic weaknesses.

The American investigative agency Open Secrets and The Indian Express exposed India’s lobbying in the US worth millions of dollars. According to the American investigative agency Open Secrets, India hired several lobbyists in 2025 to restore its tarnished reputation.

According to Open Secrets, the Indian government tried to restore its diplomatic reputation by giving $450,000 to the American lobbying firm BGR Group. The Indian newspaper The Indian Express also exposed the lobbying done by the Indian government in the US.

According to The Indian Express, in Operation Sindoor (after the humiliating defeat), India started contacting the Trump administration through lobbying in the US. India also tried to contact the US administration to promote misleading propaganda related to Operation Sindoor.

The Indian Express further reported that the Indian delegation also sought the help of lobbying firm SHW for meetings with the US administration. India hired SHW for $1.8 million annually and a lobbying firm called Mercury Public Affairs for $75,000 quarterly.
