Lahore: The 22 police stations’ SHOs have been given the right to take guns from anyone who would disturb the by-elections set for July 17 in the province capital’s four constituencies (Sunday).
The Lahore Police has granted the SHOs the ability to confiscate guns, and the Election Commission and police have made a significant intention to continue the by-elections peaceful.
The district administration has received a letter from the police demanding information on who resides in the four constituencies and has a permit to own weapons. According to police sources, the guns will be kept in the police station for a few days.In the meantime, Lahore police, in coordination with district administration, have completed all logistics, traffic, and security guarantees in all four constituencies of the province metropolis to ensure the security of voter base and presiding staff during the upcoming by-elections, according to DIG Bilal Siddique Kamyana, Nation’s Capital Police Officer Lahore.
According to Kamyana, the by-elections would be thoroughly secured, and the Election Commission’s code of conduct will be strictly adhered to on election day.
He declared that maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of the populace will not be compromised. He issued a warning that any breach of Section 144 regarding the carrying and exhibition of weapons would result in instant punishment.CCPO Lahore added that the strength has been enhanced to 9,000 in order to provide security on election day at the polling places and key locations.
Up to 900 teams from the Elite Force, Police Response Unit, and Dolphin Squad will rotate around the polling places in shifts. Personnel from the Anti-Riot Force will also maintain law and order. No one will be permitted to enter the voting places without being checked, thus special police pickets have been built up and made active around them.
