Imran Khan, the party’s chairman, is facing charges of contempt of court, and his attorney Babar Awan has petitioned the Islamabad High Court on his behalf for pre-arrest release. The charge was filed against the PTI head on August 20 because of comments he made about Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry.
A day later, a magistrate at Islamabad’s Margalla Police Station issued an arrest order for him.In the FIR, there are references to four PPC sections: 506 (penalty for criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with the intent to instigate a disturbance of peace), 189 (threat to injure public servant), and 188. (disobedience to a properly issued command by a governmental servant).
The former prime minister is accused of contempt after making divisive comments about a different district and sessions judge. The coalition government will not imprison the PTI chairman, according to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, who also stated that Imran’s arrest warrant had to be issued because Imran was supposed to appear before a magistrate but didn’t.
On a Saturday current affairs programme, the minister stated that if the accused does not show up for court, a judge will issue an arrest warrant. He continued, disqualifying Imran Khan’s arrest, “This is a regular warrant issued with bailable conditions.”
The interior minister had stated that just the case’s anti-terrorism provisions had been rejected when discussing the case. He claimed that the case had not been resolved by the court.
Sanaullah criticised the PTI leader, claiming that he had jeopardised the nation’s independence.”Imran’s crime cannot be pardoned,” he continued. Any decision taken in unanimity on the House floor shall be discussed by the Parliament and approved by the members.”
