A significant development has emerged in the ongoing Gaza war between Israel and Hamas, which has brightened the prospects for lasting peace in the region.
The American channel Fox News has claimed that Hamas has sent an important letter to US President Donald Trump regarding the Gaza ceasefire.
In this letter, Hamas has offered to release half of the Israeli hostages in exchange for a 60-day ceasefire.
The American broadcaster Fox News confirmed this news, citing a senior Trump administration official and a source directly involved in the negotiations.
Later, the report was also confirmed by the Israeli newspaper The Times of Israel from its independent sources.
According to sources, the letter is currently with Qatar and will be presented to President Trump later this week.
However, it has also been reported that Hamas has not yet officially signed the letter, but it is likely to do so in the coming days.
It should be remembered that Qatar was mediating for the release of the hostages, but Israel targeted the Hamas leadership in Doha, which led Qatar to suspend its mediation efforts.
It should be remembered that Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, taking 251 people hostage and bringing them to Gaza, and there are still 48 hostages in Hamas’ custody.
However, it is estimated that half of these hostages have died, so negotiations were underway to bring back about 20 alive and the bodies of the remaining hostages.
