Former England cricket captain Mike Smith has died at the age of 92.

The former captain, who was also known by his initials “MJK”, died on Monday, according to Warwickshire County Cricket Club.

Right-handed batsman Mike Smith made his Test debut for England in 1958 and played a total of 50 Test matches, captaining the team in 25 of them.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Warwickshire Bears legend MJK Smith,” the club said in a statement on social media.

In his illustrious first-class career, he scored 39,832 runs in 637 matches, which is the 18th highest run-scorer in history.

Mike Smith was not limited to cricket, but also represented England’s rugby union team in 1964. Later, he was also a match referee for the International Cricket Council (ICC) from 1991 to 1996.
