KARACHI: Local court on Friday released ‘fix it’ campaigner Alamgir Khan and his driver on bail after he attempted to unload a truck full of garbage at the Chief Minister (CM) House.

Talking to the media after court hearing, Alamgir Khan said that he took the step to make the Chief Minister aware of locals’ issues and their struggles with growing number of dumps in Sindh’s capital.

He said that false allegations could not deter his resolve to wake the politicians of their deep slumber.

Alamgir Khan also said that to serve his fellow citizens became a crime committed on his part. He urged the locals to support the campaign and vowed to also shut mouths of those who do not fear the power of common men.

It should be mentioned here that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) lawyer wing represents Khan in courts during his quest to rid the province of faulty practices.

PTI supporters and young lawyers hailed Khan’s rather furious step to inform politicians of people’s issues. Dozens of supporters greeted Khan at the court house and showered petals on their representative.

A case was registered against Khan and his driver, Saifullah at Civil Lines Police Station on Thursday night.

PTI’s potential candidate in the area Imran Ismail reached the police station and threatened to launch protest if the campaigner was not freed soon.

PTI leader Imran Khan demanded the release of the social campaigner. Sindh Police Inspector General (IG) Ghulam Haider Jamali expressed his displeasure over the incident and suspended three personnel. The Inspector General also ordered an investigation to know how Khan managed to reach the Chief Minister House.

The campaign was started in Karachi by Khan to get politicians to take required steps to cover open manholes and sewers in the city among other issues.

Reacting to Alamgir’s arrest, his father said that his son had no connections with any political party and was only serving his city. NNI
