A new study claims that an experimental weight loss drug called Monjaro could be even more effective in the future. However, the drug is not yet legally approved for medical use in the UK.

According to the study, patients taking the active ingredient in Monjaro, terzepteide, lost an average of 19% of their body weight over about 17 months.

In comparison, people taking the experimental drug retatrotide lost 22.1% of their body weight over about 48 weeks. The drug has not yet been approved for medical use by the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

Similarly, another experimental injection, amicratine, also showed effects of losing about 23.9% of weight over 36 weeks.

The study also compared these results with semaglutide-based injections, including Vegovy and Ozempic. These drugs can help people lose about 18 percent of their body weight in a similar amount of time.

Experts say the results of the new experimental drugs are encouraging. However, further research and approval from relevant regulatory bodies will be necessary before they can be used widely in clinical practice.
