ISLAMABAD: On tuesday the decision in the PTI Prohibited Funding Case, which was reserved on June 21, will be made public.
The election commission initially referred to the case as the “foreign financing” case, but later granted the PTI’s request to change its name to the “prohibited fundraising” issue.
The cause list for the case was made public on Monday by the Pakistani Election Commission (ECP). The cause list indicated that a three-member bench chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, who arrived at the office early in the morning, would deliver the decision.
The decision to release the ruling follows a Financial Times exposé that exposed how the PTI accepted funds from the Wootton Cricket Club, which is owned by Arif Naqvi, the founder of Abraaj.
The money was raised through a charity match, and a prominent Arab donor also contributed a sizeable sum of money.
The PTI is unlikely to accept the ruling if it does not benefit them because former prime minister Khan and his party had constantly criticised the ECP and the CEC even before they were forced from office.
The PTI has often argued that the ECP needs to be reorganised before the nation has its next general elections and has also made severe accusations against the body; however, the ECP denies any wrongdoings.
