Drowning incidents in recent flash floods are very alarming: CM Maryam

LAHORE :Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed deep sorrow and concern over the recent drowning incidents caused by floodwaters, calling them extremely distressing and alarming.In her special message on World Drowning Prevention Day, the Chief Minister said that this day raises awareness about taking precautionary measures to help save precious human lives.
Highlighting this year’s World Health Organization (WHO) theme, “Anyone can drown, but no one should”.” The CM said that while water is undoubtedly a symbol of life, it can become a cause of death if caution is not exercised.She stressed that millions of people lose their lives globally each year because the danger of drowning is not taken seriously.
Drowning in canals, rivers, streams, flood channels, or the sea is preventable but it requires strict adherence to safety precautions.
Commenting on the tragic incidents of drowning during recent floods, the CM said that a complete ban has been imposed across Punjab on swimming in canals, lakes, streams, and rivers.
Warning signs, monitoring systems, and regular checks are being implemented. Rescue 1122 teams are active at all times and taking extensive measures to protect the public from drowning incidents.She appealed to parents to stop their children from swimming in canals, rivers, and flood channels, and urged the public to take alerts issued by the Meteorological Department and district administration seriously, avoiding travel to dangerous areas.
