Karachi (Kashif Shamim Siddiqui) : Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said on Thursday (today) that development projects were being completed across Karachi in line with Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision of development, public welfare and peace.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the reconstructed Madras Road in Scheme 33, where he was joined by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Director General Zain-ul-Abideen Ansari.
Shah said improving roads and basic municipal infrastructure in expanding areas of Karachi was essential to facilitate residents and meet the needs of growing urban activity. He said the government, local bodies and development agencies were working to ensure that development projects translated into tangible relief for citizens.
According to the KDA, the Madras Road project was approved at a cost of Rs342.390 million and work started on March 5, 2026. The 900-metre road has been developed as a dual carriageway with a width of 11.2 metres.
The project also includes a 625-metre storm-water drainage line using 24-inch diameter pipes to improve rainwater disposal in the area.
The minister appreciated the KDA engineering team for completing the project ahead of the scheduled timeline and said timely completion of development schemes could improve public mobility and basic services in growing parts of the city.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab said work on several small and major roads across Karachi was currently under way. KDA DG Zain-ul-Abideen Ansari briefed the gathering about the scope and cost of the completed project.
KDA Chief Engineer Abdul Samad Jamali, Scheme 33 town representatives, relevant KDA officers and members of the engineering team also attended the inauguration.
