UAE: The Order of the Union medal has been awarded to Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan “in honour of his important contributions to the promotion of bilateral ties,” the military’s media affairs division announced on Wednesday.
The medal is the second-highest honour given by the UAE to senior officials of friendly nations, according to the UAE-based Khaleej Times.
The army chief visited the president of the Emirati nation while in the UAE, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), and they spoke about issues of mutual interest, their bilateral defence and security cooperation, and the Middle East’s regional security situation.
Former Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, Bahraini Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Dutch King Prince Willem-Alexander, British Prince Philip, Microsoft Co-Founder Bill Gates, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov are among those who have received the Order of Union, according to the ISPR statement.
General Bajwa has previously received awards from the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Bahrain’s Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, King Abdullah II, the Jordanian Order of Military Merit, the Medal for the Common Wealth in Rescue, a Letter of Commendation from the Russian Mountaineering Federation, and the Turkish Legion of Merit.
