China has planned to develop a detailed geological map of the entire planet by the end of 2028. The project will comprehensively study the surface, rocks and various geological features of Mars.

According to Hu Zhengqian, an expert at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chief scientist of the Tianwen-3 mission, experts will also develop China’s own system for classifying the geological periods of Mars based on the new scientific data obtained.

Research from China’s Zhurong rover has revealed that there was an ancient continental ocean on Mars about 3.5 billion years ago. Scientists have also found evidence of a possible short-lived flood about 1.6 billion years ago. This information will be used to prepare a new geological map of Mars.

Artificial intelligence (AI) will also play an important role in this project. With the help of artificial intelligence, remote sensing data obtained from Mars will be analyzed and various geological features of the planet will be identified.

China plans to use the same method in the future to map the Moon, Venus and various satellites.

It should be noted that the Tianwen-3 mission, which was built for the purpose of exploring Mars, was launched in 2028.
