ISLAMABAD: Security in the capital remained on high alert both before and after the Supreme Court’s (SC) decision to overturn the Punjab Assembly deputy speaker’s decision over the province’s chief minister election, according to police.
In order to secure government installations and uphold public order, officers indicated that well-equipped police, including the Anti-Riot Unit and Counter-Terrorism Department, were stationed to a dozen critical and significant locations.
According to them, the police contingent, which included six platoons, was stationed at the entrances for the public, lawyers, and judges.
They stated that the Supreme Court’s security has been turned over to the superintendent of police (SP), who will make decisions based on the circumstances.
They added that five platoons were placed on standby close to the Secretariat police station. According to them, four platoons were deployed at Express Chowk, followed by three near a hotel at Khayaban-i-Suhrawardi, two each at Nadra Headquarters Chowk and Agha Khan Road.
According to the officials, AIG Special Branch was also requested to deploy a bomb disposal unit and police officers in plain clothes, as well as to launch surveillance and intelligence gathering operations and disperse his subordinates to gather previous knowledge.
According to the officers, the district magistrate was ordered to deploy a magistrate who, in accordance with the security plan, had set up ambulances, paramedics, and fire engines. They also stated that all supervisory officials had been asked to provide security with the help of the deployments.
