Karachi: Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, in his message on the occasion of World Wetlands Day, called wetlands the lifeblood of the environment, food security and climate stability and called for urgent collective action to protect them.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that when wetlands are destroyed, the voice of nature is silenced and the heaviest price of their destruction is always borne by the poor and vulnerable segments of society.

He said that Pakistan is among the countries most affected by climate change, therefore Pakistan cannot afford to neglect its wetlands, including rivers, lakes, mangroves and fragile deltaic systems.

The Chairman PPP, highlighting the importance of Sindh’s wetlands and mangroves, said that they have protected coastal populations from natural disasters for generations and have always been the source of livelihood for millions of people.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the protection of wetlands and mangroves is not only an environmental necessity but also a demand of social justice. The PPP believes that environmental measures should be based on the welfare of the people.

He appealed to governments, communities and youth to become guardians of wetlands and ensure the protection of natural resources so that sustainable development is possible for future generations.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that harmony between man and nature is the path to a safe, green and hopeful future.
