The terrorists’ nefarious designs were foiled during a successful intelligence-based operation within the limits of Miryan police station in Bannu.
The operation was launched early in the morning, in which joint teams of police and CTD participated in a highly professional manner. The operation was directly supervised by SP Rural Bannu, while two SDPOs and SP CTD were also present on the spot.
Modern drone surveillance and modern technology were used to monitor the movements and possible hideouts of terrorist elements. During the operation, there was a heavy exchange of fire between the police and the terrorists and the area was completely surrounded.
In the heavy exchange of fire, 11 terrorists were killed while several others were injured. During the operation, a 10-kg improvised explosive device (IED) was also recovered near Azad Mandi on Miranshah Road, which was defused with timely action.
According to initial reports, the IED was planted to target the road opening duty scheduled for today, however, the timely strategy of the police and CTD foiled the major terrorist plan.
During the operation, one policeman was martyred while another was injured. The injured officer has been shifted to the hospital for immediate treatment.
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed appreciated the courage, bravery and professionalism of the Bannu Police and CTD teams for the successful operation.
IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has the full capability to thwart the evil intentions of terrorists on every front. The brave soldiers of Bannu Police and CTD have once again proven that they are ready to make every sacrifice for the protection of the nation.
He said that operations against Fitna-ul-Kharij and elements hostile to peace will continue with greater intensity. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police is standing on the front line to protect the lives and property of the people and every attack of the enemy will be befittingly responded to.
The IGP also announced special rewards for police personnel and officers who participated in the operation.
