ISLAMABAD: On Saturday, an Islamabad court gave the city’s police one final chance to turn in documents related to the sedition case against PTI leader Shahbaz Gill. His attorneys called the delay “unfortunate.”The police were ordered to provide the records by today by the court during the most recent hearing on Friday, but they did not comply with the request.
The investigating officer, who is in Karachi and in possession of the records, could not be reached, and his phone had also been turned off, the police informed the court during today’s hearing. Rizwan Abbas, the special prosecutor, told the court that before he could present his case, he needed to view the documents. When the police delayed the case, Gill’s attorneys stated it was “very regrettable.”
Tahir Mahmood Supra, an additional district and sessions judge, responded by saying that he was giving the police one “last chance” to provide the records by Monday. The case’s hearing was then postponed until Monday.Following allegations that Gill promoted military rebellion earlier this month while speaking on a private TV channel, Gill is now the target of serious accusations.
