Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor remarked on Thursday while addressing a press briefing that Pakistan has done enough and now it is the time for Afghanistan and the Unites States to do more for Pakistan.
While commenting on the demand of US to take action against alleged presence of militants inside Pakistan, particularly near Pak-Afghan border, Asif Ghafoor was of the view that no organized infrastructure of any banned organization is working in Pakistan.
“There are no facilitators of terrorist groups in Pakistan and we have gone a long way towards supporting peace in the region,” he insisted.
Answering a question regarding ever increasing demand of US to ‘do more’ he said that Pakistan has fought an imposed and imported war twice and now country will not do it for anyone.
He rightly questioned that what US and Afghanistan want from Pakistan as country has already constructed forts and posts on Afghan border for effective border management. He maintained that it is time for Afghanistan and the US do more for Pakistan. He said aid that Pakistan received was reimbursement for the support that country gave to the coalition for its fight against Al Qaeda, and without support of Pakistan, US would have never been able to defeat Al Qaeda.
In recent times allegations from high officials of US were increasing regarding Pakistan’s alleged leniency to take action against militants. President of US Donald Trump, US Vice President Mark Pence and other high ups of US military have made statements regarding Pakistan that days of sheltering terrorists have gone and now country has to act against militants. Pakistan has reiterated time and again that peace in Afghanistan means peace in Pakistan and country would do anything to bring stability in neighbouring country.
Pakistan maintained that only trust-based cooperation can bring enduring peace to the region. It is unfortunate that despite Pakistan’s assurances that country has taken firm stance to eliminate all terrorists without any discrimination, demand of ‘do more’ kept mounting. Foreign Office has already rejected such claims of US by terming them false; now military leadership has also made it clear that country will not fulfill demands of US and Afghanistan based on mere allegations.
