ISLAMABAD / WASHINGTON : The PowerPoint was simple. Four days of intense fighting would “cripple Iran’s military capabilities.” That was the presentation Israeli officials gave inside the White House in late 2025, according to three officials cited by the New York Times on March 2, 2026.

Four days became seven months. Seven months became 6 dead Americans, a sinking global economy, and a new bill for US taxpayers that two American universities have now quantified.

THE RECEIPT

Brown University’s Costs of War Project and Boston University Professor Linda Bilmes, in a report with Quincy Institute and others, estimate the US has spent $31.35 billion to $33.77 billion since October 7, 2023, on military operations related to Israel and the Middle East – $17.9 billion in direct military aid to Israel alone, the most in a single year in history.

Israel is already the largest recipient of US military aid in history – $251.2 billion inflation-adjusted since 1959. The current baseline is President Obama’s 2016 MOU – $38 billion over ten years, $3.8 billion per year through 2028.

President Joe Biden said on record – “No administration has helped Israel more than I have.” His administration also added $4.86 billion in regional operations, including the Navy campaign against Houthi shipping that choked US commerce and fueled inflation.

The researchers accused the Biden administration of “efforts to hide the full amounts of aid and types of systems through bureaucratic maneuvering.”

WHAT TRUMP HIMSELF SAID

President Donald Trump has told the story himself.

In July 2024, on Fox News, he told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “You have to end this fast. It can’t continue to go on like this. It’s too long. It’s too much.”

In August 2024, at a press conference: “He knows what he’s doing, I did encourage him to get this over with. It has to get over with fast… get your victory and get it over with. It has to stop, the killing has to stop.”

In October 2025, to TIME Magazine, after stopping a wider campaign: “I stopped him, because he would have just kept going. It could have gone on for years” and “Bibi, you can’t fight the world. You can’t fight individual battles, but the world’s against you. And Israel is a very small place compared to the world” and “Israel was becoming very unpopular.”

That matches what his own team said on the record.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said the operation was described as a “defensive operation” where “Israel was ready to act with or without US.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said: “We knew there was going to be Israeli action… we would suffer higher casualties.”

Rep. Seth Moulton, a Marine veteran of four Iraq tours, said: “We do not want to get dragged into another war in Middle East.” Former Secretary Hillary Clinton, who negotiated the 2012 Gaza ceasefire, has repeatedly warned that wars without exit strategies cost America its credibility.

THE 8TH FRONT – DOCUMENTED

Quincy Institute’s report “The Eighth Front” documents what it calls a $1 billion influence campaign to shape American opinion, with over $100 million in FARA-registered spending since 2023, involving six firms and three dozen agents – the largest FARA spender in 2026. The Wall Street Journal confirmed the scale of Israel’s influence operation in Washington.

Prime Minister Netanyahu himself described it in Florida as the “eighth front – the battle for hearts and minds, especially among young conservatives in America.”

Vice President JD Vance, on Joe Rogan, called it “an extremely well-funded, discreet campaign to manipulate American public opinion and prolong war indefinitely” and cited “payments via Brad Parscale, who was taking money from elements of Israeli government,” adding “Go to hell.”

CONGRESS IS ALREADY VOTING WITH ITS WALLET

This is no longer left vs right.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), conservative Republican, offered an amendment to cut $3.3 billion in aid.
Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY), top Democrat on Foreign Affairs, offered an amendment to block $2.8 billion in 2,000-pound bombs.
Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) said: “I will vote yes to block taxpayer funding to Israel’s military – war crimes in Gaza and helped draw US into war with Iran.”
103 House Democrats voted in a single day to cut aid – a historic number.

POLLS AND THE TRUMP SLIDE

Every major US pollster since the Iran entry shows the same trend: Trump’s approval on foreign policy dropping faster than domestic. Why? Because America First voters did not vote for a new Middle East war.

THE WHITE HOUSE DEADLINE – OCT 1

The situation is fluid. On Sept 27, President Trump told reporters at the White House: “I reject their proposal,” rejecting Iran’s 7-day ceasefire-for-Hormuz reopening deal. He posted “IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!!!” and labeled the waterway the “Trump Strait.” The Wall Street Journal reported he told aides he expects to resume bombing after midterms in November.

Two days earlier, Container News and EUalive reported a two-week ceasefire tied to Hormuz reopening, based on a 10-point proposal from Iran, after diplomatic contacts involving Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir who urged a pause. The White House confirmed Israel agreed to participate by suspending its bombing during negotiations. Sources said talks are expected in Islamabad, with Vance, Kushner and Witkoff on standby.

As of Oct 1, 23:00 PKT, one hour before Oct 2, the rejection stands, but the Pakistan-mediated 10-point framework remains on the table. Iran’s President Pezeshkian told the UN: “Iran has not walked away from negotiating table.”

THE HONORABLE EXIT – A WIN-WIN FOR AMERICA

Minute Mirror has spoken to diplomats in Islamabad. Pakistan, which does not recognize Israel, says it is ready to help America, not for politics, but for humanity, with no demand for recognition in return.

Pakistan’s offer, as conveyed:

  1. Help Trump claim victory – Announce: “I stopped a forever war. I saved $30 billion and brought our boys home.” Just as he brought troops home from Iraq after two decades, he can bring this to an end.
  2. Save taxpayer money – Redirect 50% of offensive aid – $1.9 billion – for one year to US border security and veterans’ hospitals. Keep $1.9 billion for Iron Dome defensive only. Message: America did not abandon an ally, it abandoned an endless offensive.
  3. Pakistan will help talk to Tehran – As a Muslim nuclear power respected by both Arab capitals and with channels to Iran, Pakistan says it will help facilitate US-Iran de-escalation at America’s request, and help deliver US humanitarian aid to Gaza via Pakistan, so US aid is seen as humanitarian, not military.

As one official put it: “We do this for America, which helped us for 70 years.”

BOTTOM LINE

This is not about being pro-Israel or pro-Palestine. This is about being pro-receipt.

Four days were promised. Seven months were delivered. $33.77 billion was billed. Six Americans did not come home.

America First was never about fighting another country’s war. It was about putting American money, American lives, and American credibility first.

It is not too late. Late is better than never. If President Trump declares a ceasefire today – as he declared an end to a 20-year war in Iraq – the same surveys and the same pens that criticize him today will write in his favor tomorrow – as the man who chose humanity, stable global economy, and durable peace.

If not, the next horse will be saddled, the next PowerPoint will be shown, and the next bill – many times bigger – will again be paid by the American people.

For humanity. For global peace. For America.
