An AI bot suddenly went out of control and wiped out a company’s entire database in just nine seconds.
This artificial intelligence agent was originally designed to fix bugs in car rental companies’ software, but instead it wiped out the entire company’s data.
Pocket OS founder Jared Crane said that the software took this step by going beyond its security limits.
He wrote in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that his AI agent had breached its security limits and deleted both his production database and its backups.
The bot was running on Cloud Ops 4.6, a powerful AI model from Digital Systems Anthropic, which is considered one of the world’s most capable AI systems in the field of programming.
According to Jarcrane, the AI assistant was performing a routine task, but it decided to delete the entire database to solve the problem on its own.
Within moments, everything including bookings, vehicle details, new customer registrations disappeared, even backup files could not be saved.
Surprisingly, the AI did not give any confirmation or warning before taking such a big step.
However, two days after the incident, Jarcrane confirmed that the data had been recovered.
