The US Department of Defense has officially acknowledged the losses incurred in the Iran war in a newly released report.

A report released by the Pentagon’s Office of Inspector General — a leading expert in the field — notes a significant reduction in ammunition and strategic stockpiles as a result of ongoing military operations against Iran.

The latest report is in stark contrast to the position maintained by US President Donald Trump’s administration over the past several months, as the administration has repeatedly denied there is a shortage of munitions.

The document covers the period from February 28 to the end of June — and estimates the total cost of US operations against Iran at around $33.4 billion. The largest portion of this cost is for munitions alone, which total $22.3 billion.

The report explained that the consumption of ammunition during Operation Epic Fury depleted the strategic stockpile and revealed structural bottlenecks within the defense industry that hinder the pace of replenishing the ammunition inventory as needed.

In contrast, the report highlighted the vigorous measures and initiatives initiated by the department to accelerate industrial production and address these deficiencies.
