Lahore: Jamaat-e-Islami sit-ins against petroleum levy are continuing for the 8th day in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore on the 8th day of the sit-in, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that a big rally will be held in Lahore tonight in which we appeal to the citizens to participate. The sit-ins will continue until the petroleum levy is abolished. After 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, there will be a shutter-down and a long march towards Islamabad.
Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami said that our struggle is moving towards a decisive stage, we want to take this movement to its logical conclusion. The current three sit-ins will continue in their places, while protest camps will also be set up in different cities. Milad gatherings and Seerat conferences will be held at the sit-ins on the nights of 11 and 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that local diesel is being sold at the price of imported diesel and refineries are making profits by selling local diesel at the imported price. The government and bureaucracy are aware of profiteering in petroleum products.
He said that even during the war, the public is being robbed in the prices of petroleum products, while a few people are benefiting from this business. The public, students, youth and farmers are bearing the burden of inflation.
The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami alleged that mafias rule the country and the public is being continuously robbed. The government and sugar mill owners have also started looting in the matter of sugar. The government has imported 765,000 tons of sugar using the excuse of shortage.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that Jamaat-e-Islami is a peaceful party and does not cause any harm. The peaceful existence of the public on the streets becomes a punishment for the government. Violent protests are a one-day game, but they cause damage, workers are arrested and later the leaders come together.
He also rejected the position of government representatives that the prices of petroleum products are increasing due to the sit-ins of Jamaat-e-Islami. He said that if there were no sit-ins, the prices would have been increased many times, if the government talks seriously, Jamaat-e-Islami will also talk, however, the sit-ins will continue until the petroleum levy is abolished.
On the question regarding Imran Khan’s medical check-up, he said that the government should have fully implemented the court order.
