Mirpurkhas; Mysterious death of medical student, records sought from college on harassment allegations

Karachi: The PM&DC has sought records from the concerned medical college regarding the mysterious death of medical student Fehmida Leghari in Mirpurkhas.

The PM&DC has also sought an inquiry report from the provincial government.

According to the PM&DC, a zero-tolerance policy regarding harassment of female students is in place, and action will be taken against the faculty and institution if found guilty.

Council President Professor Rizwan Taj announced that action would be taken in the disciplinary committee, and students could file complaints directly with the harassment committee.

He said that failure to provide a safe learning environment is a violation of the rules. Harassment, intimidation or abuse of students will be dealt with strictly. The safety and mental health of students is the top priority.

Anti-harassment committees were made mandatory in all medical and dental colleges.

It should be noted that Fehmida Leghari, a third-year student in a private medical college in Mirpur Khas, committed suicide by shooting herself. Her heirs allege that the student was being harassed by a college teacher.
