The world’s most popular messaging app, WhatsApp, has finally started testing a feature that users have been waiting for for a long time. This feature related to usernames is being considered one of the major updates of 2026.
According to reports, this feature has currently been introduced to limited users in beta versions of Android and iOS, but it is expected to be made widely available to all users soon.
The biggest advantage of this new feature is the increase in user privacy. Now there will be no need to share a phone number to contact a new person, but it will be possible to communicate through a username. Along with this, a special four-digit “key” will also be provided, which will further strengthen security.
Although it will still be necessary to keep the phone number associated with the account after this change, the restriction on sharing it with others will be removed, which is being considered a great convenience for users.
The method of using the feature has also been kept very simple. Users will go to WhatsApp settings and click on their profile photo, where they will see the option to create a username. Through this, they will be able to choose a username of their choice.
Moreover, users can also use their usernames from other social media platforms, such as Facebook or Instagram, here if they wish, which will make identification even easier.
