Significant progress has been made during excavations at the ancient site of Mohenjo-Daro in Sindh.
According to the Department of Antiquities and Archaeology Sindh, experts have discovered a wall built to protect the city during excavations at Mohenjo-Daro.
A mud brick wall has been discovered around the main city. Excavation work is underway at Mohenjo-Daro under the Pakistan-US Joint Archaeological Mission.
The team is conducting the excavation under the supervision of American Professor Jonathan Merck Kenwayer and Ali Lashari. In 1950 and 51, British archaeologist Sir Martyr Wheeler had described it as a mud brick foundation in his research.
Based on new excavations and evidence from soil layers, experts have described it as a city wall. According to experts, this wall was probably built to regulate trade, control traffic, and provide an administrative and planning system for the city.
Provincial Minister for Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah congratulated the archaeologists on this important discovery. This discovery further highlights the global importance of Sindh’s historical heritage.
Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah said that this discovery will promote research and tourism activities. This success of the Pak-US joint archaeological mission is a great example of international cooperation.
