Scientists have discovered an asteroid the size of eight football fields floating in space.

The asteroid, called 2025 MN45, is also very fast and is spinning the fastest of any asteroid larger than 499 meters discovered so far.

The 709-meter-wide 2025 MN45 completes a rotation on its axis in 1.88 minutes and is orbiting the sun in the main belt of asteroids in our solar system.

This main belt of asteroids is located at a distance of about 482.8 million kilometers from Earth and contains millions of asteroids of various sizes (up to 529 kilometers in size).

All asteroids are rolling in their orbits, but some are moving faster for a variety of reasons, including the sun’s heat, collisions with other asteroids, and the composition of their material.
