PDMA issues monsoon rain alert for Punjab

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a monsoon rain alert for the entire province, warning of heavy downpours across multiple districts starting from August 17.

According to the PDMA, the forecast includes severe rainfall in Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Wazirabad. Additional rain is also expected in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang and Faisalabad.

Rainfall has likewise been predicted in Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Mianwali.

Director‑General PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed all commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab to remain vigilant. He advised that advance preparations should be in place to manage potential emergencies.

The PDMA has cautioned that monsoon rainfall may raise water levels in rivers and adjoining streams across the province. The DG stated that flash flooding remains a threat in stormwater drains. He also added that urban centres face the risk of urban flooding and directed the administration to stay on high alert.
