Karachi: The Sindh Council of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) unanimously passed a resolution against the canal project. A meeting of the Sindh Council of the Pakistan Peoples Party was held at the Chief Minister’s House under the chairmanship of Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, where PPP provincial, divisional and district office bearers, including MPs and ticket holders, participated.
Addressing the meeting, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that on the occasion of the 46th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on April 4, people across the country will pay their full tribute by participating in the Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto rally.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while supporting the resolutions passed by the PPP Sindh Council against the canal project on the Indus River, said that the PPP is against new canals on the Indus River and the party has been raising its voice strongly against this project since the beginning.
PPP Sindh President Nisar Khuhro said that the 6 canals project is a plan to make Sindh barren and Sindh does not accept any canal project on the Indus River, therefore the federal government should announce its withdrawal from the 6 canals project and a CCI meeting should be called to listen to the voice of Sindh.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that Sindh does not accept any new canal project from the Indus River system under any circumstances. There is already a severe shortage of water in the system, so from where will water be brought to these canals.
Through a resolution, the PPP Sindh Council rejected the 6 canals project on the Indus River and the resolution said that the PPP demands IRSA and the federation to ensure that Sindh is provided with its full share of water under paragraph two of the 1991 Water Agreement.
The resolution condemned the Jaffer Express incident and paid tribute to the security forces and the Pakistan Army for bravely defeating the terrorists involved in the incident.
