LEEDS: Eoin Morgan, the World Cup-winning captain of England, will retire from international cricket, the BBC reports from Leeds. The announcement is anticipated to be made as soon as Tuesday.
Morgan led England to their first significant limited overs victory at the 2019 50-over World Cup and helped them to the top of the ODI and Twenty20 standings.
He was removed twice for zero runs and withdrew from the third game of the most recent ODI series against the Netherlands in Amstelveen due to a groyne injury.
England and India will face off in a three-match T20 international series starting on July 7 while the T20 World Cup in Australia begins in October.
If Morgan were to actually step down before the 2023 50-over World Cup in India, vice captain Jos Buttler would appear to be the favourite to take over as England’s white-ball captain.
However, in his last 28 international innings in the two white-ball forms, he only managed to achieve two fifties.
