Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga has said that Iran is fully committed to a balanced and fair agreement and that an agreement is not impossible if the United States abides by the framework of international law.
According to Iranian media, President Masoud Peshmerga and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone hours after Pakistan-brokered talks between Iran and the United States ended without a final agreement, and during the conversation they discussed improving security and stability in the West Asian region.
The two leaders also reviewed the latest developments regarding the two-week ceasefire announced between Iran and the United States last week, a statement from the Iranian presidential office said.
President Masoud Pezhakian reiterated that Iran is fully prepared to reach a balanced and fair agreement that guarantees lasting peace and security in the region.
He said that if the US remains committed to the framework of international law, an agreement is not impossible.
The statement said that Russian President Putin strongly criticized the double standards of Western countries and stressed the need to respect Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, saying that he supports Iran’s demand that guarantees be given that there will be no aggressive action against them in the future and compensation be paid for the losses incurred during the war.
According to the report, the Kremlin, the Russian President’s office, also said in a statement issued regarding the telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Peshkerian, that Putin and Masoud Peshkerian discussed efforts to establish peace in the region.
The statement added that Putin expressed his readiness to assist in this process and stressed that he is ready to provide further assistance in finding a political and diplomatic solution to the conflict and will play a role in mediation efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
The Kremlin said that both Masoud Peshkerkian and Putin reiterated their commitment to developing and strengthening bilateral relations.
It should be noted that the important contact between the Russian and Iranian presidents took place within hours of the end of the talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad after lengthy talks ended without a final result.
The Islamabad talks were attended by a delegation led by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, who said in a statement that the desired results of the talks were not achieved due to excessive US demands.
The US delegation was led by Vice President J.D. Vance and said that Iran had not accepted the US demand to completely abandon its nuclear program.
It should be recalled that the talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad began after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for a ceasefire and talks, and the two countries immediately agreed to a two-week ceasefire.
