The report of Transparency International has literally jolted the political narrative and some quarters opine that the report has actually eviscerated the moral edifice of the PTI government. One may agree or disagree with the above-mentioned assertion but the fact cannot be denied that the report has stirred many crunch questions. Some relate to the performance of the PTI government and some are connected to the function of Transparency International itself.
The way the ruling coterie has responded to the report is not something than can be appreciated and admired. The response was self-contradictory and obscure. Advisor to PM has offered two point narrative to educate the illiterate or semi illiterate masses having very little acumen in understanding the English language.
- The report should be considered as prepared by the House of Sharifs.
- The report is actually about the corruption of the Sharif dynasty and PTI itself is fighting against it.
Now , a commoner finds himself grappled with a troubling question that what kind of narrative it is. Does it sound logical that the report is exposing the corruption of PMLN and at the same time it is prepared by the House of Sharifs? At least top guns of the ruling elite should know how to respond to a challenge. Merely babbling and chattering shall not serve anyone.
It must be a matter of concern for the government that Under PTI , the index is worsening at a constant pace.
- In 2018 our ranking was 117 out of 180.
- In 2019 it was at 120.
- In 2020 it went down to 124.
- And now in 2021 it is down to dust at point 140.
Despite the fact it is not the actual corruption, it is perception index , the situation is alarming because if the perception becomes so pathetic in the PTI government what else the government is having to crow about. What was the grail PTI is having? I wonder if it is something else and not to fight against the corruption. And now this is the perception index in this government. What a pity!
