ISLAMABAD: JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the approval of the 27th Amendment was forced and fake, the respect of the forces that brought the amendment did not increase.
Addressing a press conference on the occasion of the party’s Majlis-e-Shura meeting, JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the 27th Constitutional Amendment and some laws that were passed by the Parliament were considered in the meeting. He said that JUI has completely rejected the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
He said that our members in the Parliament opposed this amendment. The Majlis-e-Shura ratified this decision of the parliamentarians of his party. Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that we kept the PTI informed about every progress regarding the 26th Amendment. We were also forcing the government on the PTI’s proposals. That amendment had gone through a process of mutual consultation. It can be said that that amendment was passed in the Parliament with some consensus.
He said that during the 27th Amendment, it was his duty to consult with the opposition. At least they would have consulted JUI. They ignored one party. This two-thirds majority was forced and fake. All this was against the parliament and democracy. The respect of the forces that insisted on bringing this amendment did not increase. The popularity of the government among the people fell sharply.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the things that the government gave up in the 26th amendment, today they passed it by twisting the hands of the parliamentarians. Such complications were created by bringing the amendment that even the court itself does not understand. In principle, JUI was in favor of the Constitutional Court. Even when the constitution was being made, the parties had different positions.
He said that despite having a two-thirds majority, the PPP consulted everyone, small provinces were taken into confidence. How did the PPP go against the ideology of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto today? The PPP played a role in negating democracy. The PPP supported the government in undemocratic processes.
The JUI chief said that some office bearers were given lifetime exemption. Zardari Sahib was in jail for 8 years on charges during the military government. Today, he is being told that no case can be filed against him for life. The law of Pakistan did not present him in court for 8 years? Why is this happening after assuming the presidency? Why was he portrayed as an innocent person?
He said that we first praised the bravery of the chiefs of the three armed forces in the face of India, but in return, the privileges that have been given to them for life are unacceptable in a democratic society. The chiefs of the armed forces should deny themselves the privileges given under this amendment. In this way, a class system will be created in the country.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that raising slogans of equality and passing laws against it is not befitting a democratic society. In the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Quran and Sunnah have been declared the basis of constitution-making. The Rightly Guided Caliphs have been put on trial, so are they greater than them? Everyone is equal in the eyes of the law. This is also a denial of the principles of Quaid-e-Azam.
While holding a press conference, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that there is still ambiguity about who will be called the Chief Justice in the matter of the Constitutional Court. In the event of the establishment of a Constitutional Court, if the Shariat Court decides, the Constitutional Court will say that we have nothing to do with it. What will be the future of the decisions of the Federal Shariat Court? This has not been thought of. We demand that the Federal Shariat Court and the Supreme Court Appellate Bench be made active. Two judges of the Shariat Court are not being nominated yet.
He said that in the eyes of JUI, the 27th Amendment will neither bring any improvement in the Constitution nor will it benefit the public interest. We completely reject the 27th Amendment. The government wants to keep the courts in its clutches at all costs.
He said that legislation has been made regarding the marriage of children under the age of 18, transgender and domestic violence. In which Shariat is it called a minor? And there has been talk of punishing marriage under the age of 18 as rape. A law was passed in this country to facilitate the perpetrator of rape and the PPP also supported it. Today, obstacles are being created in legitimate marriage. Marriage under the age of 18 has been declared illegal, but children born from it have been declared legitimate.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the constitution has declared Islam as the religion of the country. According to the Objectives Resolution, no law will be made in the country that contradicts the Quran. It has been said that legislation has been made on the advice of the United Nations, which is called slavery. We have fought against slavery for 300 years. Under no circumstances can such legislation be justified.
He said that we did not expect this from the Muslim League and Shahbaz Sharif. The germs of slavery are still alive in the Muslim League. The legislation made on the issue of registration of religious schools is not being implemented. They are also acting hypocritically with the legislation they have made. We are contacting Ittehad Madras and all schools of thought, seminars will be organized across the country in this regard. A series of protests will be launched. We appreciate Hafiz Sahib’s bravery, but the country should be protected from what is called privileges for a special person.
