Adidas has developed a special suit for the Winter Olympics that keeps athletes warm from the inside out.
The ClimaWarm system looks like a regular tracksuit, but inside it are several heating pads that are specifically designed to keep key muscles warm. The aim is to help athletes maintain the right body temperature even after completing a warm-up.
Adidas has been working on a system of this type for several years, according to Margarita Riccolella, director of athlete performance at Adidas. At the 2012 London Olympics, it introduced similar devices for track cyclists to “achieve the right muscle temperature for effective power output.”
Now Adidas has developed a new version of the suit specifically for the Winter Olympics, so that athletes can better cope with the specific challenges of achieving world-class performance in sub-zero temperatures.
The heating pads in this garment focus specifically on muscles that need to be kept warm and include additional features like a ‘boost’ mode that provides more heat when needed.
