Karachi: Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has over the declining performance of the national Test team, citing poor selection decisions and a weak domestic system as the main reasons.
In a recent interview with a local sports platform, Shahid Afridi said that young players are being included in the national team without proper experience.
Afridi said that the biggest mistake is that players are included in the national team too soon, sometimes after just one or two good innings in the PSL.
He added that playing for Pakistan should not be so easy, it is necessary to prove oneself in domestic and first-class cricket first.
Shahid Afridi stressed on establishing a strong system so that talented players go through the proper stages, including the Pakistan Shaheens (A team).
The former captain said, “The path to the national team should be difficult so that players understand how valuable and important it is to represent Pakistan.”
It should be noted that in the 2023-2025 World Test Championship, Pakistan played 14 matches, of which it could win only 5 matches.
