Kumar Sangakkara and Dilshan both hammered centuries as Sri Lanka thrashed Bangladesh by 92 runs in their Pool A match. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first, Bangladesh claimed the opening wicket when the Islanders had already scored 122. The wicket brought Kumar Sangakkara to the crease who joined Dilshan and piled up a 210-run partnership. Dilshan scored an unbeaten 161 and Sangakkara remained unbeaten on 105 setting up a humongous 333 runs target.
Bangladesh began the chase in the worst possible manner losing opener Tamim Iqbal for a duck. The Sri Lankan bowlers always looked in control and despite knitting small partnerships Bangladesh never threatened Sri Lanka. Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 240 giving Sri Lanka a 92-run win. Bangladesh will rue their poor fielding display that saw them drop three catches and a missed stumping, it was these missed chances that helped Sri Lanka in piling up the runs.
